5.61 Quintals of Ganja Seized from Two Cars in Sonepur, One Arrested

Sonepur: Ulunda police in Odisha’s Subarnapur district seized 5.61 quintals of ganja from two cars fitted with fake number plates during a raid on Saturday and arrested one person in connection with the illegal transportation of the contraband.

According to police sources, acting on a tip-off about ganja being transported from the Manamunda area of Boudh district, a team from Ulunda police station set up a checkpoint on the Matikhai–Nuapada road on Saturday morning.

Soon after, two suspicious cars approached the checkpoint. When police signalled them to stop, the drivers allegedly attempted to flee, prompting a chase. One of the vehicles was intercepted on the Sindhol road, and its driver, identified as Amar Sahu, was apprehended on the spot.

During a search conducted in the presence of Ulunda Additional Tahsildar Niranjan Dhala and Birmaharajpur SDPO Hemant Rao, police recovered ganja packed in 279 packets from the intercepted vehicle. The seized contraband was later weighed.

A case has been registered at Ulunda police station in this connection under Case No. 39/26.

Police also seized the second car, whose driver managed to escape from the spot. From that vehicle, 2.85 quintals of ganja packed in 291 packets were recovered. Another case has been registered as Case No. 40/26, SDPO Rao said.

Police have launched a search operation to trace the absconding driver and to investigate the network involved in the illegal transportation of ganja.
