35 Students Fall Ill Due to Suspected Food Poisoning in Koraput Hostel

Koraput/Borigumma: At least 35 students were taken ill on Monday night due to suspected food poisoning at a government-run PM Shri School hostel in Siribeda under Borigumma block of Odisha’s Koraput district.
According to reports, around 41 hostel inmates developed severe stomach pain shortly after having dinner. The students had gone to bed when, around 9.30 pm, several began complaining of acute abdominal discomfort. Soon after, more students reported similar symptoms.

Upon being alerted, hostel warden informed headmaster Kulamani Jena, who immediately arranged three vehicles to shift the 35 affected students to the Borigumma Community Health Centre (CHC) for treatment.
Medical Teams Begin Investigation
Medical teams from Borigumma and Ramagiri reached the school hostel and examined the remaining six students who had not been hospitalised. Doctors stated that the exact cause of the illness will be known only after detailed medical tests.
The incident has sparked concerns over hostel safety and food quality standards. While officials have assured a thorough investigation, anxious parents and local residents are demanding stricter monitoring systems and more frequent inspections to prevent such incidents in the future.
