212 grams of brown sugar seized in Keonjhar

Keonjhar: In a major breakthrough against drug smuggling, Keonjhar Police has arrested 21 people after seizing 212 grams of brown sugar, Rs 8.3 lakh cash and 12 mobile phones from them.

As per the direction of Keonjhar Superintendent of Police (SP), the Special Squad led by Anandpur SDPO conducted a raid at Hatapada of Shaalpada under the Ghashipura Police station limits against drug smuggling, informed Additional SP Pratyush Mohapatra in a press conference.

The Special Squad nabbed six persons from the Hatapada. While three of them were waiting for customers to sell, the other three persons were procuring the brown sugar, he added.

Based on the information received from the arrested persons, raids were conducted in different places like Ghashipura, Anandpur, Ramachandrapur and Nandipada police stations for last two days during which a total of 21 people who were linked to the brown sugar smuggling were arrested, informed the ASP.

“The preliminary investigation suggests that the sellers were smuggling the contraband from Bhadrak and marketing to the local people here. Efforts are underway to trace the prime accused of the drug smuggling,” the ASP informed.
