18 new Covid-19 cases reported in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, May 5:  As many as 18 new cases of COVID-19 were reported during the last 24 hours across the State, health officials said here on Thursday. Out of these 11 are in quarantine while 7 are local contacts. With this the number of active cases stood at 99.

According to information provided by the Information and Public Relations Department, as many as 15,933 samples were tested during the last 24 hours in the State. The State’s COVID-19 test positivity rate (TPR) stands at 0.11 percent.

Two cases were reported from Balasore, one each from Balangir and Keonjhar, seven cases from Khurda while three cases were reported from Nuapada district, it said.

Meanwhile, Health & Family Welfare Minister Naba kishore Das has directed for taking precautionary steps at different airports and railway stations in State to check the spread of the disease in the State following a rise in Covid-19 cases in Delhi and its adjoining areas.

Several passengers from these areas are coming to Odisha through air and rail routes.

Das directed the Additional Chief Secretary, Health for undertaking monitoring, planning and coordination, official sources said.
