Cuttack: In an unfortunate incident, one person died and three others sustained critical injuries in a clash between two groups during the immersion of Ganesh idols. The incident occurred in Dhurusia village under Khuntuni police limits in Cuttack district on Tuesday night. The deceased has been identified as Suryakant Samal alias Bunty.
According to the information, the altercation started between the residents of Gopi sahi and Dhurusia village while around 10pm an immersion procession organised by both sides faced each other. The conflict quickly escalated into violence, with both groups using swords and sticks to attack one another. The clash led to the death of Samal and left three others injured.
The injured have been admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital. Being informed, Khuntuni police reached the spot, started investigation into the incident and detained two persons in this connection. Meanwhile, additional police forces have also been deployed in the village as tensions remain high.
