Uttam Mohanty Cremated With Full State Honours

Bhubaneswar: Veteran Ollywood actor Uttam Mohanty, who breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Medant Hospital in Gurugram yesterday, was cremated with full state honours in Bhubaneswar today.
Uttam Mohanty’s body was taken to the Satya Nagar Crematorium in Bhubaneswar from his house in Jagannath Vihar. Hundreds of his fans, well-wishers, family members, friends and people of all walks of life mostly from the Odia film industry had accompanied.
After Uttam Mohanty’s body reached the crematorium, police accorded him State Honours, following which his last rites were performed. His son Babushaan Mohanty, who is also a versatile actor of the Ollywood industry, lighted the funeral pyre amid chants of Ram Naam Satya Hai, Hari Naam Satya Hai, Uttam Bhai Ammar Rahe and all.
It is to be noted here that his mortal remains were brought to Bhubaneswar from Delhi at about 12 noon today following his death at the Medanta Hospital late last evening.
Later, the actor’s body was taken to his residence at Jagannath Vihar in Bhubaneswar where his fans, family, well-wishers, politicians, actors and actresses of Odia film industry are paid their last homage and had the Sesha Darshan of the great actor.
Odisha CM Mohan Majhi also visited the house and paid his last respect to the deceased actor and offered flowers. Majhi also met the bereaved family members and expressed his deep condolences and solace.
Beginning his career from Odia film ‘Abhimaan’ in 1977 Uttam Mohanty has worked in more than 150 films including ‘Nijhum Ratira Sathi’ (1979), ‘Phula Chandana’ (1982), ‘Jhiati Sita Pari’ (1983) and Danda Balunga (1984). He has also acted in a few TV serials including ‘Sara Akasha’. This part, Uttam Mohanty also has shown his acting skills in 30 Bengali films and a Hindi film, ‘Naya Zaher’.
Mohanty has got the most prestigious Jayadeb Puraskar in 1999, besides Odisha Living Legend Award 2012 and Odisha State Film award for several times as Best Actor for his work and contribution to the film industry. Mohanty’s wife, Aparajita, and son Babushaan are also very well-known actors of Odia film industry.
