Two Brothers Drown in Pond in Odisha’s Sundargarh District

Sundargarh: In a tragic incident, two brothers drowned while bathing in a pond at Jhupurunga village under Gopalpur panchayat in Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Friday afternoon.
The deceased have been identified as Chitta Makar (40) and Debasish Makar (20), both residents of the same village. According to reports, the mishap occurred when the younger brother, Debasish, accidentally slipped into deep water while taking a bath. His elder brother, Chitta, rushed to save him but unfortunately drowned in the attempt.

Local villagers immediately began a search operation but were unable to locate the duo. Later, fire services personnel joined the rescue effort and recovered Debasish’s body late Friday night, followed by Chitta’s body early Saturday morning.
Police have registered a case of unnatural death at Hemgiri police station, and both bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination. The incident has cast a pall of grief over the village.
