Two Arrested with Fake Currency Worth ₹8.47 Lakh in Subarnapur

Subarnapur: Police on Wednesday arrested two individuals and seized 1,695 counterfeit ₹500 notes with a total face value of ₹8,47,500 near the State Bank of India in Subarnapur town.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team intercepted the accused while they were moving around the market area in an SUV. Upon searching the vehicle, officers recovered the fake currency notes from their possession. The SUV used by the accused has also been seized.

Subarnapur Superintendent of Police, Narayan Nayak, stated that the notes were identified as counterfeit as several of them carried identical serial numbers. The suspects were initially detained during routine patrolling on Tuesday and were formally arrested following verification.

Preliminary investigation revealed that one of the accused is a resident of Bargarh district, while the other hails from Chhattisgarh. Police officials said efforts are underway to verify their complete addresses and investigate possible links to a larger counterfeit currency network.

Two mobile phones have also been seized from the accused. Both individuals are scheduled to be produced before a local court on Wednesday. Further investigation is ongoing.
