Timber Worth ₹41.75 Lakh Seized in Khurda

Khurda: The Forest Wing of Odisha Vigilance has successfully seized illegal sawmill equipment and valuable timber, worth Rs 41.75 lakh, during a series of raids conducted in Khurda district. The raids targeted three illegal sawmills operating in Hirapur village under Balianta police station limits, and in Chittalpur and Jhintisasan villages under Balipatna police station limits.

The joint forest raid, based on reliable information, uncovered sawmill accessories and 40 cubic feet (Cft) of timber, along with an unclaimed TATA Pick-up van (Registered No. OD33-W-7392) parked at a sawmill in Chittalpur. The seized items are valued at Rs 41.75 lakh.

The sawmills were found to be operating without valid licenses, violating the provisions of Section-4 of The Orissa Sawmill and Sawpit (Control) Act-1991. In connection with this illegal operation, five forest cases have been registered under various case numbers, and investigations are ongoing.

This action is part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal timber trade and ensure compliance with forest regulations in the state.
