Tiger Spotted on Ganjam Highway, Authorities on Alert
Ganjam: The fear of a roaming tiger has gripped Ganjam district after a tourist captured footage of the big cat crossing National Highway 16 near NIST Engineering College on Wednesday. The tiger has been spotted in the region since October 25, frequently crossing the road and roaming the nearby jungles.
Rudra Pratap Rath, Additional Conservator of Forests (ACF), Berhampur, confirmed the sighting, stating that the tiger has been in the area for several days. Pug marks of the animal were also discovered in Narasinghgarh village, prompting a response from the forest department.
A team comprising ACF Berhampur, forest ranger Dibyaranjan Sahu from Digapahandi, and other officials confirmed the pug marks as belonging to the tiger. To track its movements and mitigate the threat, two trap cameras have been installed.
On October 27, the tiger was also reported to have killed a bull in the area. Authorities are working to monitor the tiger’s movements and ensure the safety of residents and wildlife.
