Three Killed, Two Injured as Dilapidated Building Collapses in Cuttack

Cuttack: In a tragic incident, three people were killed after a dilapidated building collapsed near Hadibandhu School in the Bauxibazar area of Cuttack city on Friday evening.

According to reports, the deceased were residents of a nearby slum who were trapped under the debris when the old structure suddenly caved in. Fire Service personnel immediately rushed to the spot and carried out rescue operations to recover the bodies.

Two others — a woman and a child — sustained serious injuries in the mishap and were shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital for treatment.

Local residents alleged that the building had previously been declared unsafe by authorities. However, despite repeated warnings, it was neither demolished nor vacated, raising questions about administrative negligence and lack of safety enforcement.

Meanwhile, authorities have launched an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the collapse.
