Slain Lawyer’s Wife Seeks Security, Alleges Threats to Her and Son’s Life

Bhubaneswar: Susmita Panda, wife of slain lawyer Pitabash Panda, has appealed to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi for protection, citing serious threats to her and her son’s lives.

Addressing a press conference, Susmita claimed that her son has been receiving threatening phone calls urging him to withdraw the case related to her husband’s murder. She said the threats, made through two calls from the same number, included abusive language and statements allegedly supporting Bikram Panda, the main accused and a former BJD MLA.

“I am afraid to stay at home. My son is also terrified. I have faith in the police investigation and request that the arrested person not be released from jail,” Susmita said.

Expressing shock, she revealed that Bikram Panda had even visited their home to offer condolences after Pitabash’s death, and she was deeply disturbed to learn about his alleged involvement in the murder.

Susmita urged the Chief Minister to ensure justice, stating that she has complete faith in the government’s commitment to protect her family and bring the culprits to book.

Notably, lawyer Pitabash Panda was murdered on October 6, and police have since arrested several persons, including former MLA Bikram Panda, in connection with the case. On that day, Pitabash had last spoken to his wife around 8:30 p.m., informing her that he was visiting the police station and court and would bring food home on his return — before tragically losing his life later that night.
