Puri’s Swargadwara to Introduce Cow Dung Wood for Cremations

Puri: In an upcoming initiative, cremations at the renowned Swargadwara in Puri, Odisha, will soon use cow dung wood as an alternative to traditional firewood. This shift is being planned by the Odisha Department of Fisheries and Animal Resources, according to Minister Gokulananda Mallick.

An initial discussion regarding the use of cow dung wood has already taken place, and further consultations will be conducted with the Swargadwara Committee, local social institutions, and Goshala (cow shelter) owners. Minister Mallick stated that any final decision would be reached only after comprehensive discussions.

To support this initiative, a committee focused on cow protection and the use of cow by-products, such as cow urine and cow dung, will be established. Chaired by the Deputy Chief Minister, the committee will include five ministers and five secretaries.

Additionally, the Odisha government has recently launched the Kamdhenu Yojana, aiming to enhance cow protection, expand cow shelters, and increase milk production. This new initiative at Swargadwara aligns with the broader goals of the Kamdhenu Yojana, furthering sustainable practices and cow conservation in the region.
