Paradip Port Selected as Green Hydrogen Hub Under National Mission

Bhubaneswar: Paradip Port has been selected as one of three strategic locations to be developed as a Green Hydrogen Hub (GHH) under the Centre’s National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM). The other two hubs will be set up in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu.

The initiative aims to position India as a global leader in green hydrogen production and export. Under the mission, the identified ports will act as central nodes for large-scale hydrogen production, storage, and consumption.

By adopting a cluster-based development model, the NGHM seeks to tackle the challenges of high costs and complex logistics associated with transporting hydrogen over long distances. The integrated approach is expected to streamline infrastructure, promote early-stage projects, and achieve economies of scale.

According to official reports, guidelines for Hydrogen Valley Innovation Clusters and Green Hydrogen Hubs, issued earlier this year, outline parameters for identifying regions with strong hydrogen potential. The designation of Paradip, along with the two other ports, is expected to attract major private investments, boost industrial participation, and accelerate innovation in clean fuel technologies.

The National Green Hydrogen Mission plays a pivotal role in India’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2070. By making ports the focal points of this strategy, the government aims to decarbonise domestic industries while capturing a significant share of the emerging global green hydrogen market.
