Odisha Restricts Zero Night Celebrations Amid Drug Concerns
The Odisha Excise Department has imposed restrictions on Zero Night celebrations for the year-end, citing concerns over drug trafficking in the state. Permission from the Excise Department is now mandatory for organizing any Zero Night event on December 31. Excise Commissioner Narasingha Bhola has warned that action will be taken against organizers who fail to obtain the required approval.
Reports indicate that preparations for Zero Night celebrations are underway in some areas, despite organizers not having received permission. The Excise Department is closely monitoring the situation and has warned that steps will be taken to halt unauthorized events.
In addition to monitoring the New Year celebrations, the department will intensify checks on drug trafficking through mid-January. District Collectors have been directed to oversee drug-related activities during this period. The Special Task Force (STF) and the Excise Department have formed a large team to jointly combat the issue.
