Odia New Year & Pana Sankranti 2025

Bhubaneswar: The Odia New Year also called Maha Bishuba Sankranti is celebrated in Odisha today. It is also the birthday of Lord Hanuman and also referred to as Hanuman Jayanti or Pana Sankranti. Today begins the Baisakha month of the Odia calendar.
Several Hanuman temples in Odisha witness an influx of devotees to offer prayers to Lord Hanuman. The chanting of Hanuman Chalisa adds a spiritual essence to the environment. People also visit Shiv temples, Surya temples on the occasion.
The significance of the day is that the new Odia calendar or Panjika is also introduced which is an almanac of Hindu festivals and contains the dates of festivals, auspicious days and timings, timings of sunrise and sunset along with horoscopes for the year.
Pana Sankranti:
Devi Brundabati (Tulasi) is offered Pana and then devotees consume the sweet beverage. The beverage is made from various ingredients like milk, honey, fruits viz apple, banana, mango slices, coconut, cardamom.
