Man Killed in Sundargarh Accident; Locals Protest
Sundargarh: A tragic road accident in Sundargarh district today led to the death of a man, sparking protests from irate locals. The incident occurred around 9 am near Parijat Park, within Sundargarh town police limits, when a speeding trailer struck a two-wheeler, killing Jugeswar Xalxo, a resident of Mahipani village.
According to reports, Jugeswar was on his way to drop his three-year-old child at school, accompanied by his wife Sarojini, when the trailer hit them from behind. The vehicle, an empty truck heading toward MCL, ran over Jugeswar, dragging his body for a few meters before killing him on the spot. His wife and child narrowly escaped injury by falling at a distance. Sarojini was rescued by the police and taken to Sundargarh district hospital for treatment.
The incident sparked anger among villagers, who staged a road blockade, demanding justice for the victim’s family. They also raised concerns over illegal parking and negligent driving, which they believe contribute to rising road mishaps in the area.
Police have seized the body for postmortem, and an investigation into the incident is underway.
