Man Arrested in Bhubaneswar for Spreading Rumours After Cuttack Violence

Bhubaneswar: The Bharatpur Police on Tuesday arrested a man for allegedly spreading rumours and inflammatory content on social media in the aftermath of the violence that erupted during the Durga idol immersion procession in Cuttack on October 3.

The accused has been identified as Pradeep Chandra Sahoo, a resident of Brahmeswar Patna under Badagada Police Station limits in Bhubaneswar.

According to police reports, Sahoo had posted objectionable and caste-based content containing abusive language and misinformation that could have disrupted communal harmony. His posts were flagged during a routine review by the Commissionerate Police’s social media monitoring team and were found to be in violation of public order advisories.

Despite repeated warnings issued by the Odisha Police and Commissionerate Police against circulating fake news or provocative content related to the Cuttack incident, the accused continued to share inflammatory material online.

Meanwhile, Bhubaneswar–Cuttack Commissioner of Police S. Dev Datta Singh confirmed that the curfew imposed in Cuttack has been lifted after 36 hours, as the situation has returned to normal.
