Low pressure likely to form over Bay of Bengal

Bhubaneswar: A low pressure is likely to form today over the Bay of Bengal. It is likely to turn into a depression. There is a fear among people Of Odisha about the possibility of a low pressure forming in October, the month of cyclones. However, the IMD has not made any prediction about a cyclone yet. But different models are giving different estimates about the cyclone risk and landfall.

Reports say, the possibility of a low pressure forming in the Bay of Bengal has increased in the month of cyclones in October. Different models are making different estimates about the possible cyclones. According to the NCEP, ECMWF, ECAI, IMD GFS, GEFS, and BFS models, there is a possibility of a low pressure forming in the southwest and adjacent southeast Bay of Bengal by October 21 or October 22.

Most models have predicted that it will further intensify and turn into a depression. The GFS model provides information about the possible cyclones. However, the ECMWF model shows that the low pressure may intensify and develop into a depression or a deep depression.

Similarly, the forecast on the possible landfall also varies. The GFS model has predicted that it is likely to pass through the Andhra Pradesh coast. But the ECMWF estimates that this system will first move northwestwards. Then it will turn northeastwards and pass through the Odisha coast as a visible low pressure.

While it is worth mentioning that, the NCEP GFS has predicted that it will make landfall in the north of Machilipatnam, the IMD GFS is pointing its track slightly south. However, the IMD has not given any information about the cyclone yet, hence there is no reason to panic.
