Khandagiri Mela Begins with Strict Guidelines
Bhubaneswar: The annual Khandagiri Mela commenced today at the foothills of Khandagiri and Udaygiri, attracting hundreds of sadhus and devotees from across the country. The heritage site has transformed into a vibrant center of spiritual and cultural activities.
To ensure a smooth and safe event, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has made elaborate arrangements for cleanliness, sanitation, and crowd management. Additional police personnel have been deployed to regulate traffic and maintain law and order.
BMC Commissioner Rajesh Prabhakar Patil reviewed the preparations and assured that essential services, including drinking water, sanitation, and garbage disposal, are in place. “Sanitation workers will be on duty round-the-clock to maintain hygiene at the fairground,” he said.
In a significant move, the BMC has strictly banned obscene dance performances at Jatra shows during the mela. Jatra troupes have been warned against staging any vulgar acts that could tarnish the sanctity of the event. Violators will face strict action, Patil confirmed.
Supporting the ban, Ekamra-Bhubaneswar MLA Babu Singh emphasized that obscenity has no place in Jagannath culture. “Khandagiri is a sacred place where cultural and spiritual programs are organized. The State government and local administration are committed to preventing any inappropriate activities,” he said.
With enhanced security and a strong focus on maintaining cultural integrity, the Khandagiri Mela promises to be a devotional and enriching experience for visitors.
