Jeypore Students Promote Green Diwali with Handmade Clay Lamps

Koraput (Jeypore): With Diwali fast approaching, students of the Eco Club at City High School, Jeypore, have taken a meaningful step toward promoting environmental awareness by crafting traditional eco-friendly clay lamps.
The initiative, organised under the guidance of Eco Club teacher Pratap Pattnayak and City English Medium School principal Sudhakar Patnaik, encouraged students to celebrate Diwali without contributing to noise and air pollution. Participants pledged to light only clay lamps at their homes this year, symbolising a cleaner and greener celebration.
Local potter Gopa Sundar Panigrahi and school security staff member Sunil Batra demonstrated the traditional art of making diyas, inspiring students to blend creativity with cultural heritage.
Teachers, staff, and members of the school community also joined the activity, making it a collective effort to promote sustainable festivities.
The event not only nurtured artistic skills among students but also sent out a strong message about celebrating festivals responsibly and protecting the environment while preserving India’s rich traditions.
