Elderly Man Killed in Elephant Attack in Sundargarh; Forest Officials Issue Alert

Rourkela: A 63-year-old man was killed in a tusker attack at Mundajore panchayat under Lathikata police limits in Sundargarh district on Saturday night.

The deceased has been identified as Rupan Samasi, who sustained grievous injuries after being attacked by a wild elephant. He succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment on Sunday morning, sources said.

Following the incident, forest officials confirmed that the tusker was still roaming in the vicinity, sparking panic among residents. The Forest Department has issued an alert, advising villagers to remain indoors and avoid venturing out alone during early morning and late evening hours.

Reports suggest that a herd of elephants had entered the locality from Prem Nagar in Bondamunda, and one tusker got separated from the group before straying into the Dalakudar area, where it damaged property and created widespread fear.

This marks the second elephant attack in the region within a month. Earlier, on September 26, a 60-year-old man was killed in a similar incident in the same locality.
