Cyclonic Circulation May Intensify Into Depression by Nov 24

Bhubaneswar: A cyclonic circulation has formed over the central Malacca Strait, extending up to 5.8 km above sea level, and may soon develop into a low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal around November 22. The system is likely to intensify into a depression by November 24, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

Weather scientist Uma Shankar Das shared the update on X, noting that the circulation is expected to strengthen further as it moves west-northwestward into the southwest Bay of Bengal over the next 48 hours.
Under the influence of the evolving system, Odisha is likely to witness heavy rainfall for four days, particularly in coastal and southern districts. Rain is expected to persist across various parts of the state until November 25.
