Cyclone DANA Weakens but Heavy Rainfall Expected Across Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The process of landfall for Cyclone DANA was completed earlier today, and while the severe cyclonic storm has since weakened into a cyclone, its effects are still being felt across Odisha. As a result, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red, orange, and yellow alerts for rainfall in various districts throughout the state.

A red warning has been issued for nine districts: Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Angul, and Khurda. These areas are expected to experience heavy rainfall today, October 25.

In addition, an orange warning has been issued for six districts: Nayagarh, Boudh, Sonepur, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar, indicating potential for significant rain.

The IMD has also placed several other districts under a yellow warning, including Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Ganjam, and Kandhamal.

Forecasts suggest that Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Balasore, and Mayurbhanj could receive very heavy rainfall ranging from 20 to 30 cm. Meanwhile, Puri, Khurda, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, and Nayagarh are expected to see heavy to very heavy rain, with additional heavy rainfall predicted for Ganjam, Boudh, Angul, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sundergarh, and Kandhamal.

The rain will continue to impact the entire state over the next 24 hours, with specific areas in Jajpur, Bhadrak, Puri, Dhenkanal, Khurda, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, and Angul likely to receive more than 20 cm of rainfall. Authorities are advising residents to remain vigilant as the storm’s remnants bring adverse weather conditions.
