Couple Killed, 2 Children Critical in Road Accident

Bargarh: In a tragic incident, a couple was killed while their two children sustained critical injuries as a hyva truck hit their Scooty at Gurudwara Chowk in Odisha’s Bargarh Town today.

According to the eyewitnesses, the hyva truck bearing registration number OD 17 A C 2894 hit the Scooty (OD 17 A F 1757) from behind while they were crossing the Gurudwara Chowk of the Bargarh tow this afternoon.

The intensity of the road mishap was so severe that the couple identified as Harekrushna Dunguri and Kuntala Dunguri of Ambabhona village of the district died on the spot and the two-wheeler was completely damaged.

Besides, two of the children of the Dunguri couple also sustained critical injuries following the accident. They were rushed to the hospital for treatment but their condition is said to be very critical.

Soon, a tension escalated on the spot after hundreds of angry locals protested the tragic death of the couple and tried to drag the driver out of the hyva truck and thrash him. Some of them even pelted stones at the truck and tried to vandalize it.

On being informed, a team of cops reached the spot and managed to the rescue the hyva truck driver and took him to the police station to interrogate him over the accident. They also initiated an investigation into the matter by sending the bodies for postmortem and seizing the ill-fated vehicles.
