BJP’s Nuapada Bypoll Win Reflects People’s Trust in State Government, Says CM Majhi

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday said the BJP’s victory in the Nuapada bypoll reflects the people’s confidence in the policies and programmes of the state government.

“BJP’s resounding victory in the Nuapada byelection has added a new chapter to the political scenario in Odisha. This bypoll result has shown people’s trust in the welfare initiatives of the BJP government in the state,” the Chief Minister said in a social media (X) post.

According to Majhi, the people of Nuapada have rejected the misinformation and false promises peddled by Opposition parties. “The people of Nuapada have given a decisive mandate in favour of the BJP in the byelection. I express my gratitude to the residents of Nuapada,” he added.

The Chief Minister also congratulated BJP candidate Jay Dholakia on his victory and commended the hard work of BJP state unit president Manmohan Samal and other party activists for securing a massive win. “The BJP government in Odisha is committed to the all-round development of Nuapada Assembly segment. We are seeking people’s cooperation in this regard,” he said.

The byelection to the Nuapada Assembly seat was necessitated due to the demise of sitting BJD MLA Rajendra Dholakia on September 8. His son, Jay Dholakia, contested the bypoll on a BJP ticket and was elected by securing 1,23,869 votes.

Jay defeated his nearest rival Ghasi Ram Majhi of the Congress party by a margin of 83,748 votes, with Majhi polling 40,121 votes. BJD’s Snehangini Chhuria, a former minister, finished third with 38,408 votes.

With this win, the BJP now has 79 MLAs in the Odisha Assembly. The party had formed the government in the state for the first time on its own after winning 78 of the 147 Assembly seats in the 2024 polls, with later support from a few independent MLAs.
