Ailing Elephant dies after consuming explosives in Dhenkanal

Dhenkanal: An elephant that was critically injured succumbs after allegedly consuming an explosive while undergoing treatment at the Kapilash Elephant Treatment Centre in Dhenkanal.
As per reports, the jumbo had allegedly consumed an explosive, causing deep wounds inside the mouth. The elephant was spotted in a critical condition near Pathargada Sahi in Baluakata village of Anugul district’s Bantala forest range.
After the elephant’s health condition deteriorated, was shifted to the centre in Airavat, a vehicle specially designed for elephant rescue operations.
Special veterinary teams from Kapilash, Angul and Satkosia were engaged in its treatment at the Kapilash Elephant Treatment Centre.
Despite continuous medical intervention, the elephant succumbed to its injuries.
Meanwhile, the forest department have launched an investigation into the incident and strict action will be taken against those responsible for the alleged cruel act.
